What Type Of Food Should You Bring On Your Camping Trips?

it is very important to have enough food and drinks to ensure you are well nourished during camping trips. You should choose items that are easy to carry and store, and also to keep fresh. Even if dry and non perishable foods are preferable, you can bring fresh foods as well, as long as you are able to keep them cool during the trip.

You can buy foods that are especially manufactured for camping. But, unfortunately these items don’t come cheap. The meals are pre-packaged and freeze-dried. The food in the camping meals is bland in flavor and not too nutritious.

But, with a little preparation and creativity, you can prepare easy, nutritious meals you can bring along with foods you buy at the grocery store. There are many foods that are light weight, easy to store and non perishable. Cereals, nuts, dried fruit and candy are great snacks and can be mixed for an energy boosting trail mix. All the ingredients can be purchased at your local grocery store, and then mixed and stored in a plastic container before you leave for your trip. Make sure you also pack a few smaller packets in your bag, to snack along the way.

Make sure the water you bring along is enough for drinking and cooking. And keep in mind that you will need water to clean out eating utensils after meals. Drink mixes, hot chocolate, coffee and tea are great to bring along and mix in the mornings. The best foods to bring along are those that merely require water to be added. Instant soups you add water to and let steep, are wonderful for meals and snacks, especially if it is cold. They are great for cold weather to help keep warm.

Canned meats and vegetables are great because they are nutritious and easy to prepare. You can use tuna fish and chicken in a large number of recipes. You can toss together the meats and vegetables to create a stew that will be filling, hearty, warming, and easy to prepare and clean. Salami does not need to be cooked and is great on crackers for a snack. Or, you can just eat beef jerky, a camping favorite, which ensures good nutrition and is delicious at the same time. Just remember though that if you take any canned goods to also bring a can opener.

If you have a sweet tooth, you can bring along dried fruit and candy. And, how can we forget smores? Marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers are lightweight and can be carried and stored with ease. Few things are as fun as sitting in front of a fire melting chocolate and marshmallows to make smores.

Don’t forget that all your items must be carried along when you go on hikes and walks along the trail. So you would be better off choosing items you can prepare, store, carry and clean easily. You should always have plenty of meats, cheeses, breads and sweet during your trip. You are only going to be camping for a short period of time, so you shouldn’t worry about spending too much time or energy into making excessive and unnecessary preparations. You might not be getting a balanced meal or even anything you consider good, but remember that it really does not matter. You can eat better when you get back home. Enjoy your trip, keep up your energy level and have the best time you’ve had in years.
