Romance in Rome or Proposing in Paris

Rome is perhaps the most romantic country in the world for a wedding proposal. You’ll find plenty of ways to build up to the main event as there’s just so much to see and do here. Choose from a stroll around the Coliseum, a spot of hand-holding in the Vatican or feeding each other meatballs a la Lady and the Tramp. However, if we had to pick the best place for an Italian proposal it would be the Trevi Fountain.

The best time to visit the fountain is during the evening when all the other tourists have been and gone. Who knows you might even have Rome’s largest fountain all to yourself. Tradition has it that if you throw a coin in the fountain you’ll return to the city in years to come. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have a small amount of spare change on you. Once you’ve both thrown your coins in the fountain, casually mention that the next time you return may very well be for your wedding anniversary. Just make sure that you don’t accidentally throw the ring in the fountain instead.

Paris has been nicknamed the City of Love and so it’s only fitting that it’s ideal for a wedding proposal. Swap the subway for a cycling tour and take in all the attractions at your own pace. You can take in Notre Dame, the Louvre, some of the stunning gardens and parks, and not to mention the iconic Eiffel Tower. Just pick your moment and propose in the destination that feels right to you.

Show your long-term commitment by heading to the Pont de l’Archevch once you’ve popped the question. The bridge is renowned for its love-locks which as padlocks placed on the bridge by lovers, who then throw the key into the River Seine. The bridge can be found not far from Notre Dame.

Engrave your initials on a padlock and make it official by locking your love on the bridge and wish yourself a little luck as you start along the road to the rest of your lives together.
